Tips and Tricks for Improving Memory
Have you ever crammed the night before a test or noticed that you have a hard time remembering people’s names when you meet them? These types of scenarios happen to everyone at some point or another. We can’t remember EVERYTHING, but we can implement tips and tricks for improving memory! Here are three:
- While cramming the night before a test may work it does not necessarily help you understand the material. Calendar study time regularly into your weeks so that you have the opportunity to “get” the material well ahead of test time. You want to actually learn, right? Students who understand the material tend to do better on tests. Plus they’re not as stressed out about taking tests. Plus they become more educated!
- If you’re feeling overwhelmed by a lot of information you need to learn and/or understand, break it down. Group like items together so that you’re only focusing on certain main concepts at a time rather than a lot of concepts at once.
- One great trick for remembering important information, like someone’s name, is the use of a fun mnemonic device. A mnemonic device is a fun technique, such as a rhyme or song, used to recall information. One famous mnemonic device that most everyone knows is “I before E, except after C.”
These tips and tricks are manageable enough that anyone can master them!
